Gary Ridgway's cooperation with the police
The process was one of the longest in US history. Through his later cooperation with the police, he was not sentenced to death. On November 5, 2003, Ridgway admitted in court that he had committed 48 murders. He is serving a life sentence with no prospect of pardon at Walla Walla prison in Washington.
