Most of these women were prostitutes. In 1981 he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. During this time, he was named The Yorkshire Ripper by the media after Jack the Ripper and the Yorkshire town where the victims were found.
“The voice of God has guided me”
Sutcliffe's series of murders from 1975 to 1980 kept the population in suspense. Not only because the victims were cruelly mutilated at times, but also because the victims were not all prostitutes: many women were scared, and this fear of a serial killer was intensified by the media. After his arrest on January 2, 1981, he testified that the voice of God had guided him: “..the women I killed were filth - bastard prostitutes who were littering the streets. I was just cleaning up the place a bit.”

“You fucking raping, murdering bastard, I’ll blind your fucking other one”
On January 10, 1983, his face was injured in Parkhurst Prison by fellow inmate James Costello with a broken coffee cup in such a way that it had to be sewn with 30 stitches. In March 1984 he was transferred to Broadmore Hospital. On March 10, 1997, serial killer Sutcliffe was attacked again. He was attacked by inmate Ian Kay with a pen on his face. He lost sight of his left eye and the right one was badly injured. On December 22nd, 2007 inmate Patrick Surreda attacked Sutcliffe with the words “You fucking raping, murdering bastard, I’ll blind your fucking other one”.

The death of Peter Sutcliffe
Peter Sutcliffe was believed to have had a heart attack in October 2020 and was subsequently treated at North Durham University Hospital. Two weeks later, he was admitted to the hospital again with Covid 19. He refused a course and died in hospital on November 13, 2020 at the age of 74.
