Alexander Pichushkin's accomplice, Mikhail, becomes his first victim because he refuses to commit his first murder. Pitschuschkin later said about this first act: "The first murder is like being in love for the first time - unforgettable." Pichushkin's goal was to kill as many people as the number of fields on a chessboard. That is why he is also called the checkerboard killer. The chessboard killer was arrested on June 15, 2006.
