Karl Großmann: caught red-handed
He then dismembered the corpses and sold some of them in his butcher's shop. Großmann was caught red-handed on August 21, 1921, when neighbors heard screams. The police were able to prevent Großmann's spontaneous suicide. The charred remains of a body were found in his furnace.
In the years 1918 to 1921, 23 dismembered female corpses were found in the Berlin-Kreuzberg Engelbecken and in the Luisenstadt Canal in the area around the Silesian Railway Station (today Ostbahnhof).
While waiting for his execution in prison, he hanged himself in prison without having confessed to his actions.
Serial killer Karl Großmann is said to have committed his first murder at the age of 50. Within eight years, 26 young women had to lose their lives.
